2024 ICIM lecture series kick off with explorations on leveraging AI
The first session of 2024 ICIM online lectures series "Win-win Cooperation: Intelligent Manufacturing in a Global Vision" successfully kicked off on July 7, 2024.
On July 7, 2024, the International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing (ICIM) kicked off its online lecture series "Win-win Cooperation: Intelligent Manufacturing in a Global Vision" with success. The first lecture—"Some Explorations on Digital Transformation of AI-powered Machinery Equipment" was given by Professor Huayong Yang, the Chairman of ICIM and a Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. His wonderful lecture has gained wide attention and attracted over 7,000 views.
Professor Huayong Yang, Chairman of ICIM, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
In this lecture, Professor Yang provided an in-depth analysis of how artificial intelligence can drive digital transformation in high-end equipment industry amidst global wave of AI and China's new industrialization. He emphasized that AI-enabled mechanism and data hybrid-driven method has the potential to open up new fields for innovations in the industry. Furthermore, he highlighted challenges faced by high-end equipment industry such as huge amount of heterogeneous data, slow utilization of unstructured knowledge, complexity in merging multi-disciplinary mechanism models, and balancing calculation precision and efficiency.
Professor Yang stressed that building a unified digital foundation and integrating foundation models with industrial data and mechanism is crucial for accelerating transformation in high-end equipment manufacturing. He also introduced applications of foundation models across various business segments including supply chain management, operation management, design simulation, production optimization, equipment maintenance, and marketing.
He concluded by emphasizing that foundation models are both a revolution for manufacturing tools and tools for making manufacturing revolutions happen. By catalyzing digital technologies from data-oriented to intelligent-agent oriented, these models are reconstructing the industry technology system. To promote the foundation model of high-end equipment industry effectively requires focusing on digital foundations, computing power, algorithm and data, and specific measures like managing industrial data systematically and developing regional AI computing centers.
In the Q&A session, Professor Yang addressed audience queries about application scenarios, speed and accuracy of reduced-order model applications, maturity of foundation models, global competition and cooperation in this field. His extensive knowledge and clear explanations left a lasting impression on attendees."
This lecture was hosted by Dr. Pei Huang, Deputy Secretary-General of ICIM and CEO of e-works. It is worth mentioning that Professor Peihua Gu, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, also participated in the discussion.
The lecture came to a lively conclusion, earning rave reviews from the audience as the opening lecture for 2024 ICIM lecture series. It provided important insights for China's high-end equipment industry and significant support for the research and application of foundation models in the industry and has great value for both enterprises and industry professionals.
