Chery to deliver 13,000 vehicles to Venezuelan government
Chery Automobile Co. received an order last month for 13,000 vehicles from the Venezuelan government -- the third government vehicle procurement order the company has secured from the South American country.
Venezuela ordered 9,400 vehicles in 2011, followed by an order last year for 12,000 vehicles, according to Chery.
The state-owned carmaker started exporting vehicles to Venezuela in 2006. It began assembling vehicles in the country with complete knock-down kits shipped from China in 2011. To date, Chery has sold 52,081 vehicles in Venezuela, of which 30,681 were locally assembled.
Chery, headquartered in Wuhu in east China's Anhui province, is a major exporter to South America. The company is building an assembly plant in Brazil, which will start production in the fourth quarter of this year. Chery also has a CKD plant in Uruguay.
