JAC launches SUV and light truck in Russia
Jianghuai Automobile Co., a state-owned automaker, says it launched sales of a compact SUV and a light-duty truck last week in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The JAC S5 SUV offers two powertrain choices: a 2.0-liter natural aspirated mated to a five-speed manual transmission, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The company's N-Series light-duty truck is fitted with a 2.7-liter diesel engine, and has a gross vehicle weight of 4,490 kg.
The company didn't release prices of the two vehicles.
JAC, based in Hefei in east China's Anhui province, is a leading light-duty truck maker in China. It also makes vans, compact sedans and SUVs.
Russia is a major export market for China's automakers. Great Wall Motor Co., Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Chongqing Lifan Industry Group Co. and Chery Automobile Co. assemble vehicles in Russia with kits shipped from China.
Great Wall, China's largest SUV maker, plans to build a 3.2 billion yuan ($513 million) assembly plant in the Tula Oblast region of central Russia.
Two other major Chinese truck makers, China FAW Group Corp. and Beiqi Foton Motor Co. also export light trucks to Russia.
