Nissan China to sell rebadged Leaf EV starting in September
Nissan Motor Corp. has received Beijing's approval to sell the local version of the Nissan Leaf electric car in China, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The car, rebadged as the Venucia e30, is to go on sale in September, said Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co., Nissan's joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp.
Venucia is a Dongfeng Nissan brand.
The electric car will be built at Dongfeng Nissan's Huadu plant in South China's Guangdong province.
The e30 is a hatchback powered by lithium ion batteries with a range of 180 km and a top speed of 145 km per hour, according to Dongfeng Nissan.
It is 4,488 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.
Dongfeng Nissan has yet to disclose the e30's price.
The joint venture has organized test drives of the e30 in Wuhan, Guangzhou and Dalian. Nissan also has offered test drives of the Leaf, but has no plans to sell it in China.
According to Chinese regulations, only electric vehicles built in China qualify for a government subsidy of 57,000 yuan ($9,120). The e30 qualifies for the subsidy, while the Leaf -- which is built in Japan -- would not.
