FAW aims to top 15% of domestic EV, plug-in hybrid market by 2020
China FAW Group Corp. aims to capture more than 15 percent of China's market for electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2020.
To achieve the target, the major state-owned automaker plans to launch 16 plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, FAW Chairman Xu Jianyi said at the Beijing auto show last month.
At the show, FAW launched sales of one plug-in hybrid and three electric car models. The plug-in hybrid and one electric car are built on the platform of the FAW Besturn B50 compact sedan. The other two EVs are adapted from FAW's Vita and Oley subcompacts.
Prices range from 219,800 to 258,800 yuan ($35,200 to $41,400).
By 2016, FAW will introduce seven additional green vehicles. Xu said those will include one electric and three plug-in hybrid cars, plus one commercial plug-in hybrid model and two commercial EVs.
By the end of 2013, FAW had sold more than 700 alternative energy vehicles of various kinds in China, according to Xu.
FAW, headquartered in the northeast China city of Changchun, produces passenger vehicles and trucks under its own brands.
The company also operates joint ventures with Toyota Motor Corp. and the Volkswagen Group to produce passenger vehicles, and also a partnership with General Motors to assemble light-commercial trucks.
