Eberspaecher forming China unit to build exhaust systems for cars, commercial trucks
German supplier J. Eberspaecher GmbH says it is setting up a subsidiary to produce catalytic converters for cars and exhaust systems for commercial trucks.
The subsidiary, Eberspaecher Exhaust Technology Shanghai Co., will be located in Shanghai's Pudong district.
The company says it will help automakers meet China's Euro 4 emissions standards for cars. Those standards took effect in July for gasoline- and natural gas-powered vehicles.
In July 2013, China will extend its new emissions standards for diesel vehicles. Starting next January, commercial truck makers must meet China IV emissions standards, which are comparable to Euro 4 regulations.
Eberspaecher, which is headquartered in Esslingen, Germany, recorded global sales last year of 1.9 billion euros (16.2 billion yuan). The company has 5,600 employees worldwide.
In addition to exhaust systems, the company produces vehicle heaters and air conditioning systems for buses.
