Great Wall recalls 900 SUVs in Australia
Great Wall Motor Co., China's largest SUV maker, is recalling 900 X240 SUVs that it exports to Australia, according to an Australian vehicle-safety agency.
On some vehicles, the lower section of the steering column can rub against the front right hydraulic brake pipe, which can cause a leak, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in a statement.
The agency advises vehicle owners to contact Great Wall's Australian distributor, Ateco Automotive Pty Ltd., for inspection and replacement of the affected brake pipe, if needed.
The X240, known as the Hover SUV in China, has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. Its price tag is 23,990 Australian dollars (165,770 yuan) in Australia.
Great Wall also sells the V240 pickup in Australia. The V240 is known as the Wingle in China.
In the first four months of 2011, Great Wall's global sales have jumped 50 percent year-on-year to 119,002 units. Australia is the private Chinese automaker's largest export market.
