Ford to add 15 models, jobs, dealers by '15
Ford Motor Co. plans to introduce 15 more vehicles in China by 2015 in a bid to expand its presence in the world's largest auto market.
"Our new lineup will significantly strengthen Ford's penetration in existing segments and drive new growth in others," said Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Asia-Pacific and Africa, in a statement.
By 2015, Ford plans to more than double the number of its dealerships in China, according to the statement. It now has 340 stores.
The U.S. automaker also plans to add 1,200 jobs in China by 2015, the statement said, nearly doubling the size of its current work force.
The first of the 15 new vehicles for China will be the redesigned Ford Focus, which will be built in China starting in 2012. Ford did not identify the other vehicles.
Ford's two Chinese joint ventures -- Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. and Jiangling Motors Corp. -- sold 140,566 vehicles in the first three months of 2011, up 19 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
