Beijing Hyundai sales rise 37%, outpacing market
Beijing Hyundai Motor Co. sold 50,717 vehicles in February -- up nearly 37 percent year-on-year, and easily exceeding the industry's tepid growth for the month.
By comparison, industry sales rose only 2.6 percent in February.
Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp., which owns 50 percent of its partnership with Hyundai Motor Co., released the monthly sales data.
Beijing Hyundai's two plants in Beijing build the Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, Accent, Tucson, Moinca, Mingyu, Verna, i30 and iX35.
The joint venture is building a new plant on the outskirts of Beijing, which will be completed in 2012. That plant will produce up to 300,000 vehicles a year.
The company says the plant will produce mid-market and premium models, including an SUV. Hyundai also plans to roll out a new Sonata later this year.
