Changan Auto develops small car for export
Changan Automobile Co. has started developing a right-hand drive version of its Benben Love small car for South Africa and Malaysia.
The state-owned Chinese company plans to sell the car in the two markets in the first half of 2012, the company said in a statement.
The car is powered by a 1.3-liter gasoline engine and a manual transmission. It is 3,655 mm long, 1,650 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall. Changan said it had a starting price of 38,500 yuan ($5,800) on the domestic market.
Changan -- located in the southwest China city of Chongqing -- sold 194,623 small cars and 901,232 micro commercial vehicles last year.
Most of its cars are sold in China. It also exports a small number of cars to Vietnam, Iran, Mexico and Ukraine.
