Lite-On IT, Quanta Storage Enjoy Strong Sales Performance in Q1
Thanks to the steady market growth, Taiwan's leading manufacturers of optical storage drives, including Lite-On IT Corp. and Quanta Storage Inc., will be able to score outstanding sales performance in the first quarter of this year.
Lite-On said its first-quarter sales will be stronger than industry average as it has seen smooth shipments in information-technology optical storage drives. Giving top priority to profitability, Quanta Storage has resolved to continually expand consolidation of up- and down-stream parts and components.
Lite-On noted it has seen increased shipments of gaming optical storage drives since the beginning of this quarter because of the booming sales of Microsoft Xbox game consoles. But the company experienced a slight sales decline in February because of the impact of the Chinese New Year holidays.
In addition to strong sales in information-technology optical storage drives, Lite-On has also enjoyed steady growth in sales of automotive optical storage drives.
Quanta Storage stressed it will make all-out efforts to secure profit margin instead of boosting sales volume as the prospects for information-technology optical storage drives are still vague because of unfriendly price competition from rival manufacturers in South Korea.
Because of the vicious price competition from Korean rival manufacturers and the ambition of Lite-On to tap the thin optical storage drives, Quanta Storage saw a slight decline in global market share last year.
