Audi's China sales rise 53 percent in July
Audi AG's China sales soared 53 percent last month over the year-ago period to 20,537 units, enough to boost global sales nearly 8 percent.
Audi delivered 91,400 vehicles worldwide in July.
In China, Audi's July sales of imported vehicles tripled to 3,696 units. "We are successfully implementing our strategy of significantly increasing the share that imported models have of our total sales," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi's management board member for marketing and sales.
The German luxury brand significantly out-performed China's overall industry sales, which grew 17.2 percent in July year-on-year. Industry sales began to weaken in the spring.
Over the first seven months of 2010, Audi sold 130,424 units in China, up nearly 63 percent. Over the same period, Audi sold 557,657 units worldwide, up 17 percent.
Audi wants to dethrone BMW AG as the world's largest maker of luxury cars by 2015. This year, Audi targets record sales of more than 1.1 million vehicles, up 14 percent from 2009.
