Epson's Purchases of Taiwan-made Electronics Parts and Components to Grow 30% in 2010
Seiko Epson Corp., a supplier of Epson-branded imaging products, is expected to raise its purchases of electronic parts and components, including small and medium-sized display panels, semiconductors, and POS (point of sale) devices, from Taiwanese suppliers to over NT$6.57 billion (US$205.31 million at US$1: NT$32) this year, up nearly 30% from NT$5.104 billion (US$159.5 billion) last year, according to industry sources.
Epson Taiwan last year scored sales revenue of more than NT$12 billion (US$375 million) from imaging products and electronics products and parts in Taiwan. Noteworthy is that the firm, having successfully tapped emerging segments for smartphones, netbook PCs and e-book readers, effectively pushed up its sales of electronics parts in the year.
Besides, the firm also posted a share of 30% in the market for projectors, 44% in fax machines, 75% in wide-format printers, 60% in scanners and 85% in dot-matrix printers, as the leading brand of the aforementioned products on the island last year. Hopefully, the firm expects its sales of imaging products and electronics products to grow to NT$3.782 billion (US$118 million) and NT$8.471 billion (US$264.71 million), respectively, this year,
In response to the strategy mentioned by Akihiko Sakai, director of Seiko Epson, to nurture segments for new applications of inkjet printers, 3LCD projectors and quartz gyro-sensors, Epson Taiwan's general manager Sure Lee noted that his firm is going to explore the aforementioned new markets this year, aiming to boost scale of such business to NT$5 billion (US$156 million) a year in Taiwan in 2015. This will drive Seiko Epson to purchase more related parts from Taiwanese manufacturers in the future.
