Conti starts production of diesel injectors in Asia

As part of its strategy to localize production in Asia, German supplier Continental AG has begun production of peizo diesel injectors and high pressure pumps in Amata City, Thailand.

The parts will be used in passenger and light commercial diesel vehicles in China, India and Europe.

The 5 billion THB (Euro 100 million) plant occupies 50,000 square meters with an annual capacity to produce 500,000 pumps and 2.5 million injectors.

"Our strategy is to serve sustainable solutions at a good price to Asian car makers," says Rainer Doerrheide, general manager of Amata City plant, Continental Automotive Thailand Co. "We are localizing the whole value chain including R&D, sourcing and manufacturing in Asia."

By building a plant in a free-trade zone, the Amata City plant uses an on-the-spot customs office to clear parts through customs for quick export to China.

"Logistically it is easy to supply parts to Asian markets, such as from Thailand to China and vice-versa," says Doerrheide.
