Small China supplier expects to become Tier 1 GM supplier
Ruiming Group Co., a small Chinese auto parts supplier expects to begin supplying cylinder heads directly to GM in India.
A timetable for the production of the aluminum die cast parts is not available as GM is now conducting a technical review of Ruiming, says the company's export manager Steven Sung.
GM now sells only Chevrolet cars in India; 23,789 units in the first 5 months of 2009, according to Automotive Resources Asia, a division of J.D. Power. The Chevrolet Spark is GM'sbestselling car in India. Total May sales of the model were 3,042 units.
Located in Ruian of east China's Zhejiang province, Ruiming began supplying tier one supplier Cooper Standard Automotive with turning brackets for GM cars in North America in 2007.
The company also started supplying tier one supplier Mark IV Automotive with spacers for GM in North America in 2008. Spacers connect intake manifolds to cylinder heads in cars.
Sun says: "We are expecting to supply 35,000 pieces of spacers in July and August for cars in North America."
