AU Optronics to set up TV assembly lines in China plant
To enhance added-value of its operations to counter the global downturn, Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), a globally leading supplier of display panels, is setting up a TV assembly line to complement its display module production lines in its China plant, according to K.Y. Lee, chairman of BenQ-AUO Group.
Inspired by client requests, AUO has decided to add TV assembly service to its offerings. The decision, Lee noted, costs his firm modestly but achieves considerably to satisfy clients with efficient, economical TV production, especially amid the downturn when consumers turn to economical products.
While the overall market for display panels recovers and seeing its sales turn around, AUO has no intention to drop its original plan to defer the construction of two plants in Erlin Town, Changhua County, central Taiwan, stressed Lee.
Meanwhile, AUO has also stepped up developments of green products. Citing Paul Krugman's opinion that the financial tsunami has caused global trade to shrink, Lee said that his firm has to timely switch business focus to explore new business opportunities amid the hardship.
