Sunrex expects surging shipments of keypads for clone NB PCs

With China's clone notebook PC market rapidly growing, Sunrex Technology Corp., a top-caliber supplier of keypads for laptops, projects its single-month shipments of keypads for such PCs to surge to 500,000 units starting the third quarter of this year, according to H.L. Tsai, chairman of the firm.

Thanks to the popularization of netbook PCs in the second half of last year, Sunrex, the major keypad supplier to Asustek Computer's Eee PC, hence recorded a new high of 46 million units in overall keypad shipments in the year. The firm already leads the world in keypads for laptops.

The firm shipped around 4-4.5 million keypads in March and April each, with models for clone notebook PCs accounting for only 5%, or 200,000 units, of the total at the time. However, as the demand for clone notebook PCs turns increasingly strong, the firm hence optimistically expects the single-month shipment of such keypads to soar by 150% to 500,000 units in the third quarter

Tsai noted that major Chinese manufacturers of clone notebook PC cluster in Shenzhen, southern China, where Sunrex, with 5 production plants in China, operates one production plant. Local access helps the firm to effectively tap supply chains of clone notebook PC makers.
