VW Group's 2018 deliveries edge up despite weak VW brand volume
Volkswagen Group’s deliveries in China inched up 0.5 percent year on year to 4.21 million vehicles in 2018, as gains by Audi, Porsche and Skoda more than offset a loss by VW brand.
Last year in China, Audi sales advanced 11 percent to top 663,000 while Porsche deliveries jumped 12 percent to 80,100. Skoda sales rose 4.9 percent to 341,000, the German auto giant said.
But VW brand’s deliveries dipped 2.1 percent to 3.11 million after falling for the seventh straight month in December.
Despite stagnating overall sales, VW Group solidified its position as the largest automaker in China last year.
No. 2 General Motors had its local sales decline 9.9 percent to 3.64 million in 2018.
