RIM hopes to launch BlackBerry in China

RIM in talks with China Mobile to launch its BlackBerry in China.

Research In Motion is in talks with China's largest mobile operator, China Mobile Communications, to launch its BlackBerry service in China, a company spokeswoman confirmed lately.

"We're definitely interested in the China market," said Katie Lee, a spokeswoman for RIM, in Hong Kong.

No timeline has been announced for when RIM's BlackBerry service will be available in China, Lee said, noting that the company is currently in the midst of negotiations and testing with China Mobile, Lee said.

"We are working very closely with them," she said.

The BlackBerry service is currently available in several Asian markets, including Hong Kong. Although the service is not yet available in China, BlackBerry users have access here when roaming on China Mobile's General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network, Lee said.
