BYD launches Europe-made electric buses in Hannover
BYD Co., in a bid to attract European clients, introduced two electric buses this week at the IAA commercial vehicle show in Hannover, Germany.
The new buses are assembled at BYD plants in Hungary and France.
The 12-meter-long (39-foot-long) bus is produced in Komarom, Hungary, while the 18-meter-long (59-foot-long) bus is assembled in Beauvais, France.
The Hungarian plant started production in April 2017 while the French factory is set to launch output in about a month, BYD said.
Both electric buses feature modular design. They are powered by BYD’s proprietary iron-phosphate batteries and fitted with the company’s own battery thermal management system.
BYD said it has sourced many parts from major European suppliers for the two buses.
BYD has delivered more than 600 electric buses in Europe. Globally, its electric bus sales have now topped 35,000.
Outside China, the company assembles electric buses in California, Scotland and Brazil. In China, it also makes gasoline and electric passenger vehicles.
BYD, partly owned by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, is the largest electrified vehicle maker in and outside China. It is based in the south China city of Shenzhen and listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
