VW Group sales rise 6.6% in May on gains at Skoda, Audi
Volkswagen Group delivered 340,700 vehicles in China under its various brands last month, for an increase of 6.6 percent from a year earlier.
The growth in sales was led by Skoda and Audi.
Skoda sales surged 35 percent year on year to 30,800 while Audi deliveries rose 7.7 percent to 51,732.
The VW brand delivered 251,600 vehicles across China in May, up 4.1 percent from a year earlier.
The German auto giant didn’t reveal sales of its other brands in China for May.
For the first five months, the VW Group’s China sales reached 1,686,000, an advance of 12 percent from the same period last year.
General Motors, the German group’s main rival in China, stopped disclosing monthly sales in April and will only release results on a quarterly basis.
According to SAIC Motor Corp., its two joint ventures with GM – SAIC-GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling -- delivered 321,769 vehicles in May, up 10 percent from a year earlier.
The tally include vehicles the two partnerships sold outside China.
SAIC-GM exports the Buick Envision crossover to the United States while SAIC-GM-Wuling ships rebadged Wuling minibuses under the Chevrolet brand to other emerging markets. The volumes of the two ventures’ exports are not available.
Through May, SAIC-GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling delivered 1,712,045 vehicles, an increase of 7.8 percent from the same period last year.
