Great Wall maintains growth on pickup demand
Great Wall Motor Co.’s deliveries in China rose 2.9 percent in May from a year earlier to 70,909 vehicles, fueled by demand for pickups.
Great Wall is China’s largest pickup maker. Last month, sales of the company’s Wingle-badged pickups jumped 19 percent year on year to 11,461.
During the month, Great Wall delivered 58,689 Haval and Wey crossovers and SUVs.
Great Wall stopped developing sedans years ago. Last month, deliveries of its only sedan model, the Great Wall-badged C30 compact, shrank to 759.
Through May, Great Wall’s sales rose 3.3 percent year on year to 409,329 vehicles.
Great Wall is striving to expand its electrified vehicle lineup. It plans to launch the first product under its new Ora EV brand in the third quarter.
The private Chinese automaker is in talks with BMW Group about jointly producing EVs for Mini in China.
Great Wall, headquartered in Baoding of north China’s Hebei province, is listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
