Light-vehicle sales rise 3.5% in March on demand for crossovers, SUVs

China's light-vehicle deliveries in March increased 3.5 percent year on year to roughly 2,168,600 thanks to strong crossover and SUV sales.

Last month, around 921,200 crossovers and SUVs were sold across China, a jump of 11 percent from a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Sedan sales rose 3.7 percent to about 1,026,500.

But the multipurpose vehicle and minibus segments continued to shrink: MPV deliveries fell 11 percent to about 176,400 while minibus sales plunged 40 percent to around 44,500.

For the first three months of this year, China’s light-vehicle sales edged up 2.6 percent from the same period last year to roughly 6.1 million vehicles on demand for crossovers and SUVs.
