GM sales rise behind Cadillac, Baojun volumes

General Motors' China sales increased 6.6 percent from a year earlier to 366,305 last month on demand for Cadillac and Baojun vehicles.

Cadillac deliveries jumped 38 percent to 17,248 vehicles for the month, reflecting robust sales of the XT5 crossover, the long-wheelbase ATS sedan and the full-size CT6 sedan.

Baojun sales surged 51 percent to 94,718 vehicles on strong demand for the 510 crossover and the 310 wagon. Deliveries of the brand’s first battery-electric model, the E100 micro sedan, topped 1,500 units after going on sale in July.

Chevrolet sales grew 11 percent to 57,757 vehicles last month, led by the Malibu sedan and Equinox crossover.

Buick deliveries rose 5.7 percent year on year to 114,500 on higher demand for the Excelle GT sedan, GL8 multipurpose vehicle and Envision crossover.

But sales at Wuling, China’s largest minibus brand, slumped 24 percent to 82,082 as buyers continued to migrate to crossovers and SUVs.

In the first nine months, GM’s China sales edged up only 1 percent to 2.75 million vehicles, due to weak sales early in the year.
