Geely's August sales continue to forge ahead on crossover volumes
Sales of Geely Automobile Holdings have remained robust, surging 80 percent year on year to 96,505 vehicles in August on demand for the four models it put on sale in China last year.
The four models -- the Boyue, Emgrand GS and Vision compact crossovers and the Emgrand GL compact sedan -- accounted for more than 58 percent of Geely’s deliveries in August. Sales last month totaled 22,037 for the Boyue, 13,053 for the Emgrand GS, 10,058 for the Vision and 10,926 for the Emgrand GL.
Through August, Geely’s sales jumped 88 percent from a year earlier to 718,236 vehicles thanks to the strong volumes generated by the four models.
Geely expects to launch more small crossovers this year to maintain sales growth.
In late August, it launched sales of the Vision X3, a subcompact crossover. The first product to be marketed under Geely’s new Lynk & CO brand, the 01 compact crossover, is due in China before year end.
The Lynk & CO 01 was developed on a compact car platform Geely has jointly developed with Volvo Car Corp. The vehicle is expected to be sold in Europe and the United States in 2019.
Geely, headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou, is the Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group also owns Volvo.
