GM deliveries rise 16% in March as Baojun brand surges
General Motors' China deliveries rose 16 percent year on year to 345,448 vehicles in March as the company's entry-level Baojun brand enjoyed strong demand for crossovers and multipurpose vehicles.
Baojun sales jumped 81 percent last month behind a strong launch for the Baojun 510 small crossover.
Buick, GM's leading brand in China, reported a sales increase of 21 percent, while Cadillac deliveries soared 63 percent. Chevrolet, which had been struggling to regain market share, boosted March deliveries by 4.3 percent.
In the first three months, GM China sales declined 5.5 percent to 913,442 vehicles.
GM is rolling out a new generation of electric models for Buick, starting with the Velite 5 plug-in hybrid, which goes on sale soon.
GM also expects to give Chevrolet a lift with the redesigned Equinox crossover, which went on sale in China last week.
"SUVs, MPVs and luxury vehicles will help us further tap into the market's growth potential," GM China President Matt Tsien said. "We will continue to expand and upgrade our offerings across segments."
