Geely's March sales surge 74% on demand for crossovers, sedan

Geely Automobile Holdings' blistering sales growth continued in March, with deliveries jumping 74 percent year on year to 86,952 vehicles.

The company's growth was led by four models -- the Boyue, Emgrand GS and Vision crossovers and the Emgrand GL sedan -- which were introduced last year from March through September.

Sales of those models totaled 46,658, accounting for 54 percent of Geely's total deliveries last month.

For the first three months of 2017, Geely's sales shot up 94 percent from a year earlier to 278,581 vehicles.

This year, Geely aims to boost annual sales at least 32 percent to 1 million vehicles.

To achieve that target, Geely has announced plans to introduce two crossovers: a Geely subcompact and the Lynk 01 compact crossover for the new Lynk & CO marque. The Lynk 01 is to be exhibited this month at the Shanghai auto show.

Geely is headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou and is listed in Hong Kong. Its parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., also owns Volvo Car Corp.
