Chery's second EV plant to open in May in Dezhou, report says
Chery Automobile Co. will launch production at its second electric vehicle assembly plant in May to significantly expand its EV output, according to a Chinese media report.
The 1 billion yuan ($145 million) plant is in Dezhou of east China's Shandong province. It will build as many as 100,000 EVs annually after reaching full capacity, reported ChinaNEV, a Shanghai website.
Its first two models will be Chery's eQ and eQ1 battery-electric minicars.
Chery's initial EV assembly plant is in Wuhu, in east China¡¯s Anhui province. It can produce up to 60,000 EVs annually.
In 2016, Chery delivered 20,963 EVs in China, up 48 percent from a year earlier.
Chery, a state-owned automaker headquartered in Wuhu, sold 363,300 gasoline-powered vehicles last year, up 17 percent.
