Mitsubishi-GAC venture to build engines in Changsha
GAC Mitsubishi Motors Co. broke ground this week for a plant in the central China city of Changsha that will produce up to 150,000 engines a year.
The factory will launch production in 2018 and will produce Mitsubishi's 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engines, according to GAC Mitsubishi.
GAC Mitsubishi, established in 2012, is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co.
The partnership imports engines from Japan for three Chinese-built vehicles: the Mitsubishi Outlander, ASX and Pajero. That assembly plant is in the south China city of Guangzhou.
In 2016, the partnership's deliveries dipped 1 percent to 55,888 vehicles.
