Changan partners with Geely venture to develop hybrid powertrains
Changan Automobile Group formed a partnership with a consortium led by Geely Holding Group to develop hybrid powertrains, reports Gasgoo.com, a Chinese automotive website.
Changan said it will form a joint venture with China Hybrid Systems, a company founded by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and Hunan Corun New Energy Co. in 2014.
State-owned diesel engine manufacturer Yunnei Power Co. also is a member of the joint venture.
China Hybrid Systems has raised 1 billion yuan ($150 million) to develop conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
According to Gasgoo, the Geely Emgrand EC7 will debut in the first half of 2016 with a conventional hybrid powertrain designed by the joint venture. Changan will introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the Eado.
Both companies hope to exploit rapidly growing demand in China for EVs and plug-in hybrids. Last year, combined sales of EVs and plug-in hybrids in China jumped 340 percent to 331,092 vehicles.
