China's vehicle exports drop 11% in May on weak demand in key markets
China's vehicle exports declined 11 percent year on year to 38,100 units in May due to weak demand in major export markets such as Russia and Ukraine, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported.
Exports at Great Wall Motor Co., China's largest SUV maker, slumped 45 percent to 3,447 vehicles last month.
Shipments from Geely Automobile Holdings fell 34 percent to 4,164 vehicles. Other automakers that produce in China have not disclosed vehicle export figures for May.
In the first five months, Chinese exports of passenger vehicles plunged 19 percent to roughly 174,900 vehicles.
Poor sales in overseas markets have sharpened the pressure on Chinese automakers at a time when domestic sales are sputtering. In May, industry sales of light vehicles in China edged up just 1.2 percent.
