Chery likely to build EV plant in Zhuzhou
Chery Automobile Co. likely will build electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in Zhuzhou in central China's Hunan province.
A team of Zhuzhou city government officials visited Chery and held talks with company Chairman Yin Tongyue this month, the Zhuzhou government said on its website.
Municipal officials want Chery to build a plant in Zhuzhou that can produce 50,000 to 100,000 green vehicles a year.
Zhuzhou is home to the new EV division of CSR Corp., a large state-owned manufacturer of locomotives, coaches and freight wagons for trains.
During the talks, Yin said he will push Chery to promote development of Zhuzhou's green vehicle industry, according to the city government.
Further details of the talks were undisclosed.
Chery, headquartered in Wuhu in east China's Anhui province, is a major state-owned automaker.
Its first EV, a modified Chery QQ microcar, has gone on sale in China. The company plans to launch sales of a plug-in hybrid and another electric car over the next two years.
