Output of EVs, plug-in hybrids jumps tenfold
Automakers in China produced 9,628 electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles in November, 10 times as many as a year earlier.
The total includes 3,540 passenger EVs, 1,640 commercial EVs, 2,469 passenger plug-in hybrids, 1,977 commercial plug-in hybrids and two fuel cell vehicles, said China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Through November this year, output of EVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles combined in China approached 56,718, a fivefold increase from the same period last year.
The year-to-date total includes 25,800 passenger EVs, 7,363 commercial EVs, 13,600 passenger plug-in hybrids, 9,949 commercial plug-in hybrids and six fuel cell vehicles.
In China, only EVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles qualify for government subsidies.
To promote the use of green vehicles, the Chinese government this year began subsidizing construction of battery charging stations in various cities.
The subsidies will be meted out based on the number of EVs and plug-in hybrids sold by each city from 2013 through 2015.
