Navistar, JAC open truck engine joint venture
Anhui Jianghuai Navistar Diesel Engine Co., a joint venture between U.S. commercial vehicle maker Navistar International Corp. and Chinese automaker Jianghuai Automobile Co., launched production at its new plant in Hefei of east China's Anhui province.
The factory can build 200,000 Euro IV and Euro V compliant engines per year, Navistar said.
Jianghuai Navistar, incorporated in 2013, produced diesel engines at JAC's facilities in Hefei prior to the opening of its own plant.
The joint venture builds JAC's 2.8-liter diesel engine as well as Navistar's 3.2-liter and 4.8-liter diesel engines. It plans to produce a 7.2-liter diesel engine starting in 2016.
The engines are used in JAC's vans and trucks as well as commercial vehicles produced by other Chinese automakers, JAC said.
Jianghuai Navistar plans to consolidate all of its engine output at the new plant.
JAC, in Hefei, is a major truckmaker in China. It also produces gasoline and electric cars.
Navistar, headquartered in Lisle, Ill., makes trucks, buses as well as diesel engines.
