BorgWarner to expand production of EGR valves
U.S. supplier BorgWarner Inc. plans to expand production at its plant in Ningbo to produce one million exhaust gas recirculation valves a year starting in 2016.
The Ningbo factory opened in 2010 and over the past four years has produced 1.5 million EGR valves.
The EGR valve is designed to reduce oxides of nitrogen emissions, which contribute to smog.
The Ningbo plant, which is located in eastern China's Zhejiang province, supplies several European and Chinese customers.
BorgWarner has been expanding aggressively in China this year. The company opened its second turbocharger plant in China this month to meet rising demand.
BorgWarner entered the Chinese market in 1993 and operates plants in Beijing, Shanghai and Ningbo. The factories make dual-clutch transmissions as well as turbochargers and emissions control components.
The company is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich.
