China's vehicle sales up 10% in July on strong demand for MPVs, SUVs
Light-vehicle sales in China reached 1,357,900 units in July, an increase of 10 percent from the same month last year, said the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Sales growth was driven by robust demand for MPVs and SUVs. Last month, MPV deliveries surged 66 percent year-on-year to 118,900 units, while SUV sales jumped 25 percent to 293,000 units.
But sedan sales rose only 2 percent from a year earlier to 857,800 units, while microvan sales dropped 2 percent to 88,200 units.
In the first seven months, China's light vehicle sales increased 11 percent year-on-year to 10,991,800 units, according to the association.
In contrast to robust sales of passenger vehicles, deliveries of commercial trucks and buses in China have remained weak this year.
Last month, commercial vehicle sales declined 7 percent from a year earlier to 260,200 units. That brought sales of China's commercial vehicles through July to 2,309,900 units, down 4 percent from the same period last year.
