VW brand's China sales rise 19% in first half
Volkswagen Group says it delivered some 1.17 million Volkswagen brand cars in China in the first half of the year, up 19 percent from the same period last year.
The figure accounts for 38 percent of the VW brand's sales worldwide in the same period.
Sales of the VW Group's other brands remained robust in the Chinese market during the six-month period: Audi sales rose 18 percent year-on-year to 268,666 units; Porsche sales increased 8 percent to 19,785 units; Skoda sales grew 9 percent to 130,700 units.
Bentley's sales in China in the first half also surged 27 percent from a year earlier, VW said, without disclosing sales figures for the brand.
Last week, Volkswagen Group announced its plan to invest 2 billion euros (16.8 billion yuan) to build two new China plants in the cities of Qingdao and Tianjin.
The group currently has nine operating plants and one under construction in China.
