Audi, Mercedes, VW brand post double-digit gains for April
Audi AG, China's leading luxury brand, says sales rose 17 percent in April year-on-year to 45,216 units on strong demand for its Q line of SUVs.
Last month, sales of the Audi Q3, Q5 and Q7 collectively rose 43 percent year-on-year to 16,910 units.
Audi, in a bid to maintain its sales lead over Mercedes and BMW, has expanded its lineup of compact cars. The redesigned A3 sedan and sportback debuted in March.
For the first four months, Audi sales have risen nearly 20 percent to 169,736 units. The company has maintained its sales lead over rivals BMW AG and Daimler AG, which have not yet reported April sales.
Audi's corporate parent, Volkswagen AG, said VW-brand sales in China jumped 28 percent in April to 238,700 units.
For the first four months, VW-brand sales rose more than 17 percent to 921,400 units.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz said China sales rose 38 percent in April to 22,438 units. The extended-wheelbase E-Class sedan has been a strong seller this year, and Mercedes-Benz is preparing to roll out the redesigned C-Class compact sedan in the third quarter.
