Honda deliveries slip second straight month
Honda Motor Co. and its two local joint ventures sold 58,398 automobiles in China in April, down 4 percent from a year earlier.
Honda lost market share as industry sales in China rose 13 percent in April.
That's the second straight month in which the Japanese automaker reported lower sales year-on-year. In March, Honda sales fell 2 percent.
However, Honda sales are up for the year to date. In the first four months, the company delivered 222,408 units, up 11 percent.
The automaker will double the number of car models it sells in China to 20 models over the next two years, Japan's Nikkei newspaper recently reported.
Honda also plans to source more Chinese parts to keep costs low, the Nikkei said.
Honda, which operates car ventures in China with Dongfeng Motor Group Co. and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., aims to sell 900,000 cars in the country this year, up 19 percent from a year earlier.
