New Honda Civic Arrives in China
BEIJING — Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between the Japanese automaker and China's third-largest vehicle manufacturer, has launched the redesigned Honda Civic here, just six months after its introduction in the U.S. market.
The partners recently completed an expansion of their factory in Wuhan, boosting annual production capacity by 30,000 to 120,000 units. Dongfeng Honda also assembles a version of the Honda CR-V.
The eighth-generation Civic goes on sale in China in late April through 90 Honda dealers. It will compete against such multinational entries as the Ford Focus, the Mazda3 and the Toyota Corolla — essentially the same competitors it faces in the U.S. market. Dongfeng Honda expects to sell 50,000 Civics this year.
The China Civic features the same basic exterior design and 1.8-liter VTEC engine as its Ohio-built counterpart. Dongfeng Honda says the car has been "modified to meet the needs of Chinese customers, as well as the driving environment and regulations in China."
