GM to export Baojun sedans to North Africa
General Motors says its SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture in China will begin exporting a version of the Baojun 630 sedan to North Africa late this year.
The car will be sold in Africa as the Chevrolet Optra.
The joint venture already exports the Wuling Rong Guang minivan and the Hong Guang MPV to various markets.
GM's Wuling joint venture launched the Baojun brand in 2010 to penetrate China's entry-level market for passenger cars. In China, Baojun also markets the Le Chi minicar, a localized version of the Chevrolet Spark.
The Le Chi carries a starting price below 50,000 yuan ($8,200), while the 630 sedan is priced below 70,000 yuan ($11,500).
Next year, Wuling will add an MPV and a hatchback to the Baojun lineup.
For the first nine months of 2013, Baojun sales in China rose nearly 28 percent to 69,187 units.
