New warranty regulations take effect Oct. 1
Owners of defective vehicles in China will have the right to obtain repairs, a replacement vehicle or a refund from the automaker under new warranty regulations that take effect Oct. 1.
The regulations, dubbed "the three guarantees," were issued in January by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Currently, each automaker makes its own warranty policy.
Audi AG and Mercedes-Benz already have implemented the new warranty, China Daily newspaper reports.
Meanwhile, Shanghai General Motors announced on Sept. 2 that it would exceed the new warranty mileage requirements of three years/60,000 kilometers.
Warranties on Buick and Chevrolet vehicles have been extended to three years/100,000 kilometers, while Cadillac warranties are good for three years with no limits on kilometers.
