Light-vehicle sales increase 11% on strong SUV, MPV volume
Sales of light vehicles in China continued to grow at a double-digit pace last month, with demand for sedans, SUVs, MPVs and microvans rising 11 percent year-on-year to about 1,353,200 units.
As in the past several months, the growth was driven by robust SUV and MPV sales, according to figures released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
In August, SUV sales advanced 46 percent from a year earlier to about 240,100 units while MPV sales surged 160 percent to 105,600 units.
Sedan deliveries rose 4 percent year-on-year to 899,100 units during the month, but microvan sales dropped 28 percent to 108,400 units.
In China, microvans are mostly used to transport people and cargo by small businesses and rural families.
In the first eight months of the year, China's light-vehicle sales have increased 13 percent year-on-year to some 1,125,600 units, according to the association.
