Magna opens drivetrain parts plant in Tianjin
Magna International Inc. opened a drivetrain component plant this week in the north China port city of Tianjin.
The $68 million (419 million yuan) factory will employ 400 people at full production, Magna said.
The 13,500-square-meter plant initially will build rear axles and power takeoff units for Volkswagen AG in China.
The plant is Magna's sixth that produces drivetrain parts in China. It is also the Canadian parts supplier's 26th manufacturing site in the country.
Magna, of Aurora, Ontario, ranks No. 4 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide parts sales to automakers of $30.43 billion in 2012.
