Honda to launch 12 new models in China by 2015
Honda Motor Co. plans to introduce 12 new models and launch local production of hybrid-powered vehicles before the end of 2015.
The Japanese automaker will launch three new models this year. The Crider will debut in China later this month, while the new Accord and the Jade will go on sale in September.
Honda also plans to build its hybrid vehicles in China within the next three years, the automaker said last week. To make its hybrids affordable to Chinese consumers, the company said it would develop and assemble the vehicles in China using Chinese-made parts.
Starting with the new Accord, Honda will equip its Chinese product lineup with safety technologies such as collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control and lane monitoring.
Honda also plans to introduce its infotainment service, HondaLink, to China within the next three years.
Starting with the Jade, Honda plans to localize its entire vehicle development process, from styling to design to testing.
It also will develop key technologies such as powertrains that are "appropriate" for China.
Honda, which has joint ventures with Dongfeng Motor Corp. and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., sold 589,198 vehicles in China last year, according to LMC Automotive.
"By accelerating introduction of new technologies and localization of our research and development operations, we are aiming to achieve 1.3 million unit sales annually in the Chinese market before the end of 2015," said Seiji Kuraishi, president of Honda Motor (China) Investment Co.
