GM's Wuling microvan goes on sale in India
General Motors this month started selling in India a microvan developed by its China joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co.
The five-seat Wuling Hongguang has been rebadged in India as the Chevrolet Enjoy, according to the automaker.
The vehicle, fitted with a 1.4-liter gasoline or 1.3-liter diesel engine, is assembled in India with kits imported from China.
The gasoline-powered model sells for 549,000 to 699,000 rupees (63,000 to 80,000 yuan) while the diesel model carries a price tag of 669,000 to 799,000 rupees.
The vehicle will compete with the Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylov.
GM also plans to build and sell another five-seat microvan in Egypt. The 1.2-liter vehicle, called the Wuling Rongguang in China, will be called the Chevrolet Move.
SAIC-GM-Wuling, located in Liuzhou in southwest China's Guangxi region, is a three-way joint venture of SAIC Motor Corp., General Motors and Liuzhou's municipal government.
It is China's largest microvan maker, with global sales topping 1.3 million units.
