Dongfeng-PSA partnership's sales up 37% in first 2 months
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. says it sold 93,666 Peugeot and Citroen vehicles in January and February, up 37 percent from the same period last year.
The growth was significantly above the industry's overall sales increase of 20 percent.
The company attributed its robust sales to two new model launches as well as enhanced marketing efforts around the week-long Chinese New Year Holiday in February.
Dongfeng Peugeot launched the stretched Citroen C4 and the Peugeot 3008 in early January in China. Thanks to strong demand, the company sold 6,759 Citroen C4s and 7,950 Peugeots in two months.
Dongfeng Peugeot, located in the central China city of Wuhan, is a 50-50 joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Dongfeng Motor Corp. Aside from the Peugeot 3008 and the Citroen C4, the joint venture produces the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, 408 and 508 and also the Citroen Elysee, C2 and C5.
The partnership aims to sell more than 500,000 vehicles this year, up from 440,000 in 2012.
PSA also has a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. in the south China city of Shenzhen. That partnership is due to start producing the Citroen DS model lineup this summer.
