Honda China motorcycle JV starts production at Guangzhou plant
The joint venture is planning to start production this summer of a small scooter, the first time Honda will both produce and sell a model equipped with its programmed fuel injection system in China.
BEIJING (AFX) - Wuyang-Honda Motors (Guangzhou) Co Ltd, a motorcycle joint venture between Honda and Guangzhou Motors Group Co, said it has started production at its new plant in Guangzhou.
Annual production capacity at the 380 mln yuan plant is one mln units, Honda said in a statement on its website.
The joint venture is planning to start production this summer of a small scooter, the first time Honda will both produce and sell a model equipped with its programmed fuel injection system in China.
Wuyang-Honda has been producing 100 to 125 cc motorcycles and scooters since 1992, achieving cumulative production of four mln units in February this year.
Wuyang-Honda produced 638,000 units in 2005, up 17 pct, and exported over 70,000 units to 38 countries, including Japan, Honda said.
