Ford's China sales soar 43% in December
Ford Motor Co. sold 70,510 vehicles in China in December, surging 43 percent from a year earlier.The figure brought Ford's total sales for 2012 to 626,616 units, up 21 percent.
The automaker credited the sales increase to strong demand for Ford-brand passenger vehicles.
Sales of the locally built Ford Mondeo, Focus, new Fiesta and S-Max -- along with the imported Ford Edge -- rose 59 percent year-on-year to 50,569 units in December. The Mondeo, Focus, new Fiesta and S-Max are built at Ford's passenger joint venture with Changan Automobile Co.
For the full year, sales of those vehicles jumped 31 percent to 426,608 units.
Sales of Jiangling Motors Corp., Ford's commercial vehicle joint venture with Jiangling Motors Group Co., grew 14 percent year-on-year to 19,941 units. For the full year, Jiangling sold 200,008 vehicles, up 3 percent.
Jiangling Motors builds the Ford Transit van.
