China promotes clean development of fossil fuels: white paper
The Chinese government announced Wednesday that it will push forward the clean development of fossil energy in an effort to protect environment and attain its goal of energy conservation and emission reduction.
The nation will develop the coal industry in a safe and highly efficient way, spur the development of thermal power in a clean and highly efficient manner, according to a white paper on China's energy policy released Wednesday by the Information Office of the State Council.
The nation aims to enhance overall mechanization and safe production in coal mining through upgrading and reconstruction, and elimination of outdated production capacity, the white paper says.
Efforts will be made to develop a circular economy in the mining areas, and rationally develop associated resources, according to the white paper.
It says intensified efforts will be made in the prospecting and exploitation of conventional oil and gas resources. Meanwhile, the country will also actively promote the development and utilization of non-conventional oil and gas resources.
The nation aims to increase its annual output of shale gas to 6.5 billion cubic meters by 2015, according to the white paper.
Furthermore, the country will enhance the construction of energy storage and transportation facilities, the white paper says.
